Author Guidelines

Before submitting to JALT

Please check that your manuscript meets the following requirements before completing your submission. Full details are available in the JALT Editorial Policy.

  • The submission has not been previously published and is not under consideration by another journal.
  • The manuscript is submitted in Microsoft Word format. PDF files cannot be reviewed.
  • The manuscript follows APA 7 referencing requirements.
  • The article type has been selected according to JALT’s article classifications.
  • The manuscript is written in clear English and is comprehensible to an international audience.
  • The submission includes a separate title page with author details and a blinded manuscript with identifying information removed.
  • Author names and identifying details have been removed from the manuscript file properties.
  • Figures, tables, and artwork are supplied in editable or high-resolution formats where required.
  • Any use of Generative AI beyond editorial or proofreading assistance is disclosed in a dedicated declaration section.
  • The submission complies with JALT’s publication ethics, authorship, conflict of interest, plagiarism, and data sharing expectations.

Important: JALT has no author submission charges, article processing charges, or other author fees. Multiple submissions by the same author at the same time will not be considered.

Teaching Case

For any submissions to Teaching Case, teaching notes are also required (submitted as a companion document)

Teaching Notes typically include:

  • Learning objectives

  • Suggested teaching approach

  • Discussion questions

  • Indicative analysis

  • Optional assessment guidance.
